Alternator, Change
TAD550GE, TAD551GE, TAD750GE, TAD751GE
NOTICE! The main switch must be in the off position before work is begun.
Removal
1 Remove the left fan cowl; refer to 26-3, Fan, change.
2 Remove the alternator drive belt; refer to Drive Belt, Change page 204.
3 Undo the alternator cable connections:
• Terminal W
• Terminal D+
• Terminal B+
4 Remove the harness clamp from the alternator.
5 Remove the alternator.
Installation
6 Install in reverse order.
Tightening torque: 30 Nm (22.1 lbf. ft.)
7 Install the alternator drive belt; refer to Drive Belt, Change page 204.
8 Install the left fan cowl; refer to 26-3, Fan, change.
9 Turn the main switch on.
Alternator, Change
TAD752GE, TAD753GE, TAD754GE
NOTICE! The main switch must be in the off position before work is begun.
Removal
1 Remove the belt guard and drive belt according to Drive Belt, Change page 204.
2 Disconnect the alternator cables.
3 Remove the two retaining bolts (1) and the cable clamp (2) from the alternator.
4 Lift the alternator away.
Installation
5 Install in reverse order. Tightening torque: 30 Nm (22.1 lbf. ft.)
6 Install the belt guard and drive belt according to Drive Belt, Change page 204.
7 Turn the main switch on.
Starter Motor, Change
NOTICE! The main switch must be in the off position
before work is begun.
Removal
1 Remove the heat shield, if fitted.
2 Remove the following cables from the starter motor:
• Cables to the starter relay.
• One thick and one thin cable to the positive terminal.
3 Remove the starter motor.
Installation
4 Install the starter motor. Tightening torque: 60 Nm (44.3 lbf. ft.)
5 Connect the electrical cables to the positive starter motor terminal. Tightening torque: 15 Nm (11.1 lbf. ft.)
6 Connect the starter relay harness terminal. Tightening torque: 2.5 Nm (1.8 lbf. ft.)
7 Install the heat shield, where fitted.
8 Turn the main switch on.
Engine Control Unit (ECU), Replace
TAD550GE, TAD551GE, TAD750GE, TAD751GE
IMPORTANT!
Under no circumstances may control units ever be switched between engines during fault tracing or repairs.
NOTICE! Before the control unit is replaced and any warranty claim made, all checks in the check list must be performed to eliminate defects in the engine control system. If cable harness tests indicate defects, it is highly likely that the control unit is OK. Refer to Service handbook, Group 30.

Removal
1 Remove the harness clamps and disconnect the harness terminals.
2 Remove the engine control unit.
Installation
3 Install in reverse order.
Engine Control Unit (ECU), Replace
TAD752GE, TAD753GE, TAD754GE
IMPORTANT!
Under no circumstances may control units ever be switched between engines during fault tracing or repairs.
NOTICE! Before the control unit is replaced and any warranty claim made, all checks in the check list must be performed to eliminate defects in the engine control system. If meter readings indicate cable harness defects, the control unit is most probably fault free. Refer to Workshop Manual, Group 30.
NOTICE! The main switch must be in the off position before work is begun.
Removal
1 Remove the harness clamps and disconnect the harness terminals.
2 Unfasten the engine control unit cooling loop. Tightening torque: 10 Nm (7.4 lbf. ft.)
3 Move the cooling element carefully aside.
4 Remove the engine control unit.
Installation
Install in reverse order.
