Continued the last article. Some parts of the internal combustion engine are lubricated with butter, which is a semi fluid colloidal substance obtained by thickening the engine oil with a thickening agent. The following butter types are commonly used:

Calcium butter. It is yellow, with strong water resistance, and can work in a humid environment. Calcium based butter contains 1.5%~3.5% water, which acts as a structural stabilizer in butter to ensure that oil and soap are not separated. However, it is not heat-resistant and is easy to melt when heated at about 80~85 ℃. There are five kinds of calcium base grease, namely No. 1, No. 2, No. 3, No. 4 and No. 5, which are commonly used in water pumps and motor bearings.

Sodium butter. It is reddish brown. It is characterized by high temperature resistance, strong adhesion, and lubricity after all melting. It can be re condensed into grease after cooling, so it can be used at about 140 ℃. Its disadvantage is that it is not resistant to water, and it will be emulsified and lost when meeting water. Therefore, it is not suitable for use in wet occasions. There are three types of sodium based grease: No. 2, No. 3 and No. 4, which are suitable for the lubrication of high-speed bearings with more heat.

Calcium sodium butter. This kind of butter has the characteristics of the first two kinds of butter, which is both water resistant and heat resistant. There are two kinds of calcium sodium butter commonly used: No. 1 and No. 2, which are suitable for friction parts with temperature of 120~135 ℃. Such as bearings for motors, generators, pumps and other equipment.

Aluminum disulfide butter. It is a new type of butter that is grayish black and can withstand high temperature. It can prolong the maintenance period.

Aluminum based butter. High water resistance.

Synthetic calcium butter. It can be used for lubrication of friction parts of automobiles, tractors and other industrial equipment and mechanical tools.

Calcium base, calcium sodium base and synthetic calcium base butter are divided into several brands according to penetration, which should be selected according to season. Penetration indicates the viscosity of butter. It indicates the depth of a standard cone sinking into the big butter under its own weight within a certain period of time. The smaller the penetration (the larger the number), the thicker the butter is, and the harder it is to melt. It is suitable for occasions with high temperature.
