After a diesel generator generates power, there are also some supporting systems, such as the parallel - operation system, capacitor compensation system, noise - reduction and environmental - protection system, hot - water utilization system, and cable project. Only in this way can the entire military diesel generator power - supply system be complete and meet various established standards. Next, the editor of Dingbo Power will explain them one by one.
(1) Parallel - operation system
Conditions for parallel operation
The voltage, frequency, and phase sequence must be consistent.
Debugging of the parallel - operation cabinet
Preparation before parallel operation
·Connect the large output wires from the generators to the parallel - operation cabinet. Check that the phase sequences are consistent.
·Install the control wires from the generators to the parallel - operation cabinet. Check if the generator ground wires are properly connected. All generator sets must have separate grounding and be connected together.
·Install the current transformers (CT) for generator parallel operation. For the W - phase (for Marathon generators, install on the T2 - phase and use the generator's own CT).
·Set the initial values of the AVR voltage drop, load distributor, and speed - control board. Set the speed - control potentiometer and voltage - regulation potentiometer to the middle position.
No - load debugging
·Start the generator sets: Adjust the frequency to 50Hz/60Hz and the voltage to 390VAC/380VAC. Adjust the voltage between pins 15 - 23 of the GAC18M672 to 5.02VDC. Check if the phase sequences of each generator set are consistent.
·After completing the above work, manually start one generator set first. Then, select the standby generator set on the synchronization selection switch, turn on the synchroscope, and set the manual/auto selector of the standby generator set to the auto position. The generator will automatically synchronize and connect to the grid.
Load debugging
·Load each generator set with 30 - 50% of the load respectively. Adjust the voltage of each generator set to be the same under the same load. Some voltage - regulation boards may change the no - load voltage after adjusting the voltage drop. In this case, readjust the no - load voltage, then load the generator and adjust the voltage drop repeatedly until the no - load voltage and load voltage reach the desired values.
Note: Different voltage - regulation boards have different load curves. Generally, adjust the voltage drop to be consistent at the load commonly used by the customer.
·Connect the generator sets to the grid and load them. Check the power and current matching. If the power distribution is uneven, adjust the load - distribution potentiometer on the distributor to balance the power. If the parallel - operation output is balanced, increase the load and adjust the parallel - operation output to be balanced.
(2) Capacitor compensation system
Function of capacitor compensation
Since there are a large number of inductive loads such as motors in production and power - consumption units, the power factor is generally low, resulting in low power - generation efficiency. Therefore, reactive - power compensation is required. That is, a capacitor circuit is connected in series in the load circuit to make the load characteristics approach those of a pure - resistance circuit. Reactive - power compensation can also reduce line losses, increase the voltage, and reduce the copper and iron losses of the generator. Most reactive - power compensation uses parallel capacitors. Currently, ABB and RVC automatic compensators are widely used, and there are wiring diagrams on the back of the compensators.
Debugging method of ABB and RVC automatic compensators
·Wiring power supply: Press the “MODE” button until “AUTO SET” appears. Press the “+” and “ - ” buttons simultaneously. The “AU” on the display will flash, indicating that the RVC has completed the setting. Capacitors will be switched on and off during this process.
·Press “MODE” to “MAN SET - DELAY” to set the switching delay time. After all the settings are completed, press “MODE” until “AUTO” appears, and the compensator will work automatically.
(3) Noise - reduction and environmental - protection system
Diesel generator sets have two major environmental - protection hazards: noise and exhaust - gas pollution. To meet environmental - protection standards, necessary improvement treatments are required.
Noise - reduction system
To meet the requirements of the intake and exhaust systems of diesel generator sets, design and construction must be carried out according to the specific conditions of the generator room. Generally, a noise - reduction system includes noise - reduction doors, intake and exhaust noise - reduction air ducts, exhaust fans, noise - reduction asbestos, and secondary silencers. For real - estate generator rooms, the ceiling and walls also need to be equipped with aluminum gusset plates for noise reduction.
Exhaust - gas treatment system
The exhaust gas from diesel generators mainly contains particulate matter and soot. Exhaust - gas treatment technologies include particulate - matter trapping and water - washing methods.
