The crank - connecting rod mechanism is the main working mechanism of the engine. Its function is to convert the reciprocating linear motion of the piston into the rotational motion of the crankshaft, and transform the force exerted by the gas on the piston into the torque of the crankshaft for external work output. The crank - connecting rod mechanism includes the piston - connecting rod group and the crankshaft - flywheel group.
1. Piston - connecting rod group
The piston and the piston pin are in clearance fit. During assembly, place the small end of the connecting rod between the two pin holes of the piston. Note that the forward mark on the connecting rod must be in the same direction as the forward arrow mark on the piston crown. Insert the pin into the pin hole and gently tap it with a soft metal hammer or a wooden hammer, then install the retaining ring. After installation, the piston and the connecting rod should be able to swing freely without any blockage. Then install the piston rings. When installing the piston rings, the marked side should face upwards, and it is better to use special tooling.
Each piston has four piston rings. The first compression ring is a rectangular - faced ring, mainly used to seal high - temperature and high - pressure gases. The second and third compression rings are tapered - faced rings, mainly used for gas sealing and oil scraping. The fourth ring is a combined oil ring with a helical spring expander, mainly used for oil scraping. When assembling the piston rings into the piston, pay attention to the direction, and the side marked "TOP" should face upwards.
To ensure the sealing performance, the axial clearance and the end gap of the piston rings must meet the specified values.
The method for measuring the end gap: Place the piston ring flat in the cylinder liner hole (it can be pushed flat with the piston), and measure the gap at the end of the ring with a feeler gauge.
When installing the piston - connecting rod assembly into the cylinder liner, the arrow on the piston crown must point to the front end of the engine. The openings of the three compression rings should be staggered to ensure the sealing performance.
When assembling the connecting rod bolts, apply a little clean engine oil, screw the connecting rod bolts in by hand until they reach the bottom, and then tighten them with a torque wrench. The tightening torque of the connecting rod is 260 ± 10 N.m, and it needs to be tightened evenly in four steps:
First step: Tighten to 50 N.m.
Second step: Tighten to 100 N.m.
Third step: Tighten to 200 N.m.
Fourth step: Tighten to 300 N.m.
After tightening, ensure that the crankshaft can rotate flexibly. The piston is equipped with a cooling oil passage, and the cooling oil is sprayed by the cooling nozzle to cool the piston and prevent it from overheating. The cooling nozzle is not allowed to collide with the piston or the crankshaft to ensure that the oil can be accurately sprayed into the internal cooling oil passage of the piston.
