Noise Type Emitted by Diesel Generator Before Failure

The diesel generator may make abnormal noise during operation. Most customers do not know that this kind of noise is an alarm of machine failure. When they hear abnormal noise, they should immediately stop using the product and quickly find out the cause.

Starlight provides ten types of noise emitted by diesel generators before they fail, with approximate diagnostic results, which are expected to be useful to customers.

Sound description 1: rhythmic crisp metal knocking sound or low and unclear knocking sound in the cylinder;

Diagnosis: The injection time of the diesel engine is too early or too late. At this time, the injection advance angle should be adjusted.

Sound description 2: During operation, the engine parts can be heard knocking in the crankcase, and the heavy and powerful knocking can be heard when the diesel engine speed is suddenly reduced;

Diagnosis: The wear of connecting rod bearing bush causes excessive fit clearance. At this time, the bearing bush should be removed and replaced if necessary.

Sound description 3: The diesel engine has a light and sharp sound when running, which is especially clear when running at a constant speed;

Diagnosis: The piston pin and connecting rod small end bushing hole are too loose. At this time, the connecting rod small end bushing should be replaced to make it within the specified clearance range.

Sound description 4: When the diesel engine is running, the knocking sound is heard on the outer wall of the cylinder. When the speed increases, the knocking sound is intensified;

Diagnosis: The clearance between the piston and the cylinder liner is too large. At this time, replace the piston or replace the cylinder liner according to the wear condition.

Sound description 5: the whole cylinder makes a rhythmic slight knocking sound;

Diagnosis: the valve spring of the diesel engine is broken, the tappet is bent, and the push rod sleeve is worn. At this time, check the diesel engine parts and replace the damaged parts, and correct the valve clearance.

Sound description VI: The diesel engine makes a particularly sharp or "Huo Huo" sound during operation, which is clearer when the accelerator is increased;

Diagnosis: The radial clearance of crankshaft main rolling bearing is too small or too large. At this time, check the main rolling bearing with noise and replace it if necessary.

Sound description 7: When the diesel engine is running, you can hear the collision sound of the crankshaft moving forward and backward;

Diagnosis: The front and rear thrust bearings of the crankshaft are worn. The excessive axial clearance causes the crankshaft to move forward and backward. At this time, check the wear of the axial clearance and thrust bearings, and replace them if necessary.

Sound description 8: the "squeak" sound from dry friction is heard at the cylinder head;

Diagnosis: There is no oil between the rocker arm adjusting screw and the spherical seat of the push rod. At this time, remove the cylinder head cover and add oil.

Sound description IX: abnormal noise fault analysis during diesel engine operation heard rhythmic loud noise at the cylinder head;

Diagnosis: The clearance between the inlet and exhaust valves is too large, and the valve clearance should be recalibrated at this time.

Sound description 10: The front cover plate emits an abnormal sound, and the crash sound can be heard when the diesel engine suddenly slows down;

Diagnosis: The transmission gear is worn and the clearance is too large. At this time, adjust the backlash and replace the gear according to the wear condition.
