The organizational method of repair technology for diesel generator sets directly affects repair quality, repair cost, repair time, and production efficiency. Each repair unit should adopt a reasonable process organization based on its specific situation, such as equipment conditions, technical level, repair objects, and material and accessory supply.

The organizational methods for the repair process of generator sets can be divided into two types: the basic methods of generator set repair operations and the forms of labor organization.

1. The labor organization form of repair work

In terms of its labor organization form, the repair of generator sets is generally divided into comprehensive operation method and specialized division of labor method.

(1) Comprehensive operation method refers to the repair operation of the entire generator set, except for individual parts repair and processing (such as forging, mechanical processing, etc.) which are completed by professional workshops or professional work groups, all other work is completed by a single work group. By adopting this method of operation, the scope of work for the working group is relatively wide (requiring knowledge of both internal combustion engine repair technology and motor repair technology), and the technical requirements for the staff are relatively comprehensive. At present, most units adopt this method.

(2) The professional division of labor method refers to dividing the unit repair operation into several work units according to job types, parts, assemblies, components or processes, and each unit is undertaken by one worker or one work group. This homework method is easy to improve the technical proficiency of workers in individual tasks, facilitate the use of professional tools, and achieve high-quality repair goals. But it is required that the technical management department has a complete and sound management method to ensure that the repair work is carried out rhythmically.

2. Basic methods for repair work

For the repair of generator sets, the basic methods can be divided into on-site repair method and assembly exchange repair method.

(1) In the process of repairing a generator set using the on-site repair method, the parts, assemblies, etc. removed from the original machine, except for scrapped parts. The repair method of replacing repairable parts with the original machine after repair is called on-site repair method. At present, most units adopt this repair method. When using this repair method, the amount of repair work and the required repair time vary due to the different degrees of damage to each part, assembly, or assembly, which often affects the continuity of repair and assembly work. The assembly of the entire machine often requires waiting for the parts, assemblies, or components with the longest repair time to be repaired before proceeding, resulting in a longer repair time. But for general units, there are not many models of the same type, and in situations where accessories are scarce, using this repair method is advantageous.

(2) In the process of repairing a generator set, except for the engine body, all other assemblies, components, and parts that need to be repaired are replaced with reserve parts (repaired or newly purchased), and the replaced assemblies, components, and parts are stored in a reserve warehouse for spare parts after repair. This repair method is called assembly exchange repair method. This repair method reduces the time delay caused by repairing assemblies, components, and parts, ensures the continuity of repair work, greatly shortens repair time, and improves production efficiency. It is suitable for units with a large number of the same model and sufficient spare parts reserves.
