The insulation of machine parts by diesel generator sets is also a method of limiting shaft current, such as insulating one or more places connected to the bearing, so that there is no metal contact between the bearing and its supporting body or any surrounding conductor, isolating the shaft current circuit. But this method is difficult to implement and is rarely adopted. If it is confirmed that the rotating shaft has magnetism, the best way is to perform demagnetization treatment.

For the magnetization effect of the rotating shaft caused by unbalanced winding, the current generated by this effect can be reduced by adding a neutral winding. If this method is not easy to implement, a method of increasing the magnetic resistance through the bearing support magnetic circuit can be used, for example, adding non magnetic materials to the magnetic circuit to meet this requirement. For the rotor of a compressor that is magnetized due to processing, manufacturing, or other reasons, a specialized demagnetization device can be used for demagnetization treatment. The principle of this device is to place the rotor in an alternating magnetic field, which is extremely strong and can quickly eliminate its magnetism.


Taking measures based on the cause of charge is the fundamental way to eliminate axial current. For example, for the electrostatic charge generated by steam turbines, controlling the size of water vapor droplets, changing the material and finish of nozzles and blades, etc. can be used to reduce droplet collisions and frictional electrification. However, this measure is often unrealistic for machines that are already in operation, as it means the need to redesign an effective device to prevent the generation of shaft currents.
