Reduce Reciprocating Inertia Force of Diesel Generator Set

When the piston of the diesel generator set moves and transfers to the connecting rod, it bears the reciprocating inertia force and gas pressure. The middle of the piston pin of the diesel generator set passes through the small end hole of the connecting rod, and both ends are supported in the piston pin seat hole of the diesel generator set. The piston pin of the diesel generator set bears a large periodic impact load under high temperature. The relative sliding speed between the outer surface of the piston pin of the diesel generator set and the connecting rod bushing is not high, and the lubrication condition is generally poor, mostly splash lubrication.

The piston pin is required to have sufficient strength and stiffness. In order to reduce the reciprocating inertia force of the diesel generator set, the piston pin of the Diesel generator set is very light, and is usually made of high-quality steel or alloy steel. Its outer surface is carburized or cyanide treated, and then ground to achieve high surface finish and accuracy. In order to improve the fatigue resistance of the piston pin of the Diesel generator set, the internal and external surfaces of the piston pin of the diesel generator set can be carburized and quenched at the same time.


The piston pin is usually made into a hollow cylinder and installed in the full floating mode. Full floating means that when the diesel engine is working, the piston pin of the diesel generator set can rotate freely in the connecting rod head and piston pin seat. The slow rotation of the piston pin of the Diesel generator set helps distribute the splashed lubricant on the friction surface, thus reducing the wear of the diesel generator set. The wear along the length of the piston pin of the diesel generator set and the circumference of the piston pin can be more uniform.


In order to prevent the piston pin of the diesel generator set from moving axially and pulling the cylinder wall, the piston pin snap ring of the live diesel generator set shall be installed at both ends of the piston pin, and the snap ring shall be installed in the groove of the piston pin seat hole. Due to the large expansion coefficient of the aluminum piston of the diesel generator set, there is some interference between the piston pin and the pin hole of the diesel generator set at room temperature to ensure that there is a proper clearance between the piston pin and the pin hole of the diesel generator set. In order to facilitate installation and not damage the mating surface, the piston of the diesel generator set is usually heated to 70-90 C in water or oil, and then pushed into the seat hole by the piston pin of the diesel generator set.
