Working Conditions and Common Faults of Generator Set Bearings

Apr. 10, 2023

Bearing is one of the essential accessories for generator sets. We believe many customers do not understand the generator set bearing Starlight power generation equipment very well. Therefore, today, we will introduce the working conditions and common faults of generator set bearings to help you better understand the generator set bearings.

Generator set bearing operating conditions

1. Connecting rod bearings are subjected to alternating impacts of gas explosion pressure and reciprocating inertial forces of the connecting rod group during operation.

2. The unit area load of the bearing bush is large (up to 300 kgf/cm ² Above).

3. The relative speed between the bearing pad surface and the shaft is high (>10m/s).

4. The generator unit bearing is impacted by pulsating oil pressure.

5. Due to high-speed operation, the bearing of the generator set is prone to heat, with a temperature generally between 100 and 150 ℃, which can easily deteriorate the lubricating oil and cause corrosion and wear on the bearing surface.

6. Under the action of high temperature, fuel enters and incomplete combustibles dissolve, causing the lubricating oil to deteriorate.

Common faults of generator set bearings

1. Bearing burning

(1) Reason

Poor lubrication: Poor lubrication can cause dry friction between the crankshaft and the bearing pad, resulting in high temperatures. Due to the low melting point of the bearing pad alloy layer (the melting point of copper copper lead alloy is about 240 ℃), its normal operating temperature is required to be 60 to 70 ℃, and it is not allowed to work above 100 ℃. As the lubrication conditions deteriorate, when the temperature rises to 100 ℃, the bearing pad alloy begins to soften, When the temperature continues to rise to the melting point of the bearing alloy of the generator set, the bearing alloy will burn out.

Too small assembly clearance: If the assembly clearance between the bearing shell and the crankshaft is too small, the lubricating oil is not easy to enter, and it is also easy to cause the phenomenon of burning the bearing shell.

(2) Measures to ensure normal oil pressure and temperature; Ensure proper assembly clearance.

2. Bearing bush pulled

(1) Cause Organic impurities in the lubricating oil.

(2) Measures: Strengthen the filtering of lubricating oil.

3. Alloy shedding

(1) The reason is that the alloy quality is not good, poor casting quality, improper assembly clearance, tile deformation.

(2) Measures During maintenance, pay attention to observing the quality of the generator unit bearings; Ensure proper assembly clearance during assembly.

The above is the working conditions and common faults of the generator set bearings introduced by Starlight Power Generation Equipment. As a professional generator set manufacturer, Starlight Power Generation Equipment will continue to introduce relevant knowledge of the generator set to help you better understand the generator set and purchase suitable generator set products.

Starlight Power was founded in 1974 and is one of the earliest manufacturers of generators and diesel generator sets in China. If you want get more information, please feel free to send email to sales@dieselgeneratortech.com we will pay highly attention on your question.
