How to Correctly Use Volvo Diesel Generator Set

Volvo engines and diesel generator are all over the world and can be used in any possible operation. As a 100-year-old engine manufacturer, Volvo's name has become a symbol of reliability, technological innovation, high performance range and long service life.

VOLVO diesel generator low fuel consumption, low emissions, low noise, structure, mainly from the diesel engine, generator and control system from the combination of three parts. 

Diesel engine

1. A diesel engine is a kind of power machine. Power machinery, also known as the prime mover, converts the natural energy (hydraulic, wind, solar, and chemical energy of various fuels) into mechanical motion that can be used directly to drive other machines.

2. The diesel engine directly injects the chemical fuel (diesel) into the cylinder and relies on the thermal explosive force produced by the combustion of the fuel to promote the external work of the piston.

3. The conversion of heat energy and mechanical energy in diesel oil is accomplished through four processes: piston working in cylinder, continuous air intake, compression, working and exhaust.

Generator/alternator

After starting the diesel engine, it depends on the residual magnetic voltage of the motor and the excitation current provided by the rectifier to the magnetic field of the AC machine. The armature voltage of the AC motor increases gradually, and the AC voltage is fed into the host magnetic field after rotating rectification, which makes the main generator establish the voltage. When the speed is close to the rated value, the voltage regulator AVR makes the generator rise rapidly and stabilize at the rated value.

Control system

The control system monitors the operation of the whole genset, including the diesel engine and the motor. The sensors on the diesel engine are used to control the high water temperature alarm shutdown, the overspeed alarm shutdown and the low oil pressure alarm shutdown of the diesel engine, and to ensure the diesel engine to run in the normal working state.

Necessary inspection of Volvo generator before starting

Please develop the habit of visual inspection of diesel generator engines and engine rooms before starting. This will help you quickly find out if an exception has occurred or is about to occur. After starting the engine, check the meter and warning screen to see if the normal value is displayed.

Note: Do not start the ejector or similar products as starting AIDS. Explosion hazard!

Before the start

1. Check if the oil level is between the MIN and MAX markers.

2. For fuel, please refer to the oil level, check and fill up.

3. Turn on the tank switch.

4. Check for leaks of coolant, fuel or lubricating oil.

5. Check the air filter pressure drop indicator.

6. Check coolant level. Check if the periphery of the radiator is blocked. Please refer to the coolant level, check and fill.

Note: Do not turn on coolant padding cap except in case of emergency, or cause serious personal injury. Steam or hot fluids may spew out.

7. Turn on main switch

8. Set engine speed control to idle speed. Separate the detachable clutch / drive.

What should you pay attention to when using Volvo generating set?

1. The properties of diesel have great influence on the power, economic performance and reliability of diesel engine.

2. Oil with CF or VOLVO engine oil.

3. Coolant shall provide adequate heat transfer capacity. In addition, the main anti-rust, anti-freezing. The coolant shall be mixed with water and ethylene glycol or corrosives. The PH value of water is between 6 and 8. Clean water or distilled water should be used in accordance with the requirements of ASTM4985. The specific mixing ratio is 50%VOLVO antifreeze liquid and 50% pure water. It can be used throughout the year without freezing when the temperature is about -40.

4. Operating machine pressure shall be within the range specified by 2-5Bar. Check each part of the pipe system and parts connected to oil leakage, leakage phenomenon. Exhaust smoke color is normal, there is no abnormal noise. No-load low speed running time should not be too long. When the diesel engine temperature and oil pressure of the Volvo generator set are normal, it should be able to run steadily by increasing the speed to the rated value.

5. The gradual loading load and speed increase should be increased gradually and uniformly, and sudden increase and sudden reduction of load should not be allowed under any special circumstances.

6. The normal generator shutdown should be subjected to a comprehensive inspection. Observe whether the machine is malfunctioning so that it can be handled after the machine is shut down. Shutdown should not be done by turning on the relief mechanism or closing the fuel tank switch. Unloading the load gradually before shutdown, running 3-5 minutes without load, cooling evenly in many departments, this is especially important in turbocharger. Stop over stop device, such as stop solenoid valve, solenoid, etc.

The plane must be shut down in any of the following circumstances.

1. Oil pressure gauge indicates sudden drop or no pressure

2. A sharp rise in cooling water or oil temperature

3. Speed automatically increases, there is a flying car phenomenon.

4. Abnormal tapping or loosening of transmission mechanism.

5. The diesel engine has explosive latent accident on the spot. At present, the control system of the unit is usually equipped with self-protection system, such as oil pressure, water temperature, overspeed protection, and emergency stop device, which makes the diesel engine stop by turning off the throttle. If necessary, stop the air filter by blocking it.
