Why My Diesel Generator Set Is Not Charged

Sep. 04, 2018

When the diesel generator set is running at medium and high speed, the ammeter pointer points to discharge, or does not move in the "0" position, indicating that the charging circuit has a fault. Firstly, you should check if the belt of the rechargeable generator is too loose or slippage when it is not rechargeable. Then check whether there is any loose connection or bad contact between the wire connections, and then judge according to the following steps. This paper introduces the phenomenon of no-charge of generator set and its fault judgment method.

For a diesel engine using a DC rechargeable generator, users can use spin tool to "test fire" between the armature connection column and the housing of the rechargeable generation motor. If there is a spark, the whole excitation circuit such as the charger itself and the magnetic connection column, the regulator, the current limiter and the armature circuit of the charging generation motor are good. Faults should be in the regulator's armature connection column, current interceptor to ammeter section. If there is no fire or a weak spark, it is indicated that the rechargeable generator or its magnetic field wiring column, through the regulator, the current limiter to the rechargeable generation armature pole, that is, the whole excitation circuit has a fault.

At this time, the armature and battery terminals on the voltage regulator can be connected by wires to observe the indication of the ammeter. There may be two phenomena:

1. There ate charging current

This indicates that the contact point of the voltage regulator is ablated or the shunt coil is short-circuited, which causes the contact can not be closed.

2. There are no charging current

This shows that the voltage regulator battery connection to ammeter connection line broken contact poor.

After checking the two possible faults and the genset is still not charging, reconnect the temporary conductor to the rechargeable armature and magnetic field connection.

There are also two possible scenarios.

1. The generator st is able to charge

This indicates that the rechargeable generator is good and the fault lies in the exciting circuit of the voltage regulator. If contact ablation or spring tension is too weak, resulting in poor contact between the two contacts, circuit breakage or resistance burnout, etc.

2. The generator set is not able to charge

The user can remove the wire connected to the regulator of the rechargeable generator, connect the armature of the generator with the wire of the magnetic field connection, and test the fire with the case. If there is parks, it indicate that the generator is good, and the reason why the generator is not charged may be the excitation circuit of the regulator. If there is no sparks, it is indicated that the generator itself has faults, which may be caused by poor contact of carbon brush or commutator, broken circuit of armature or magnetic field coil, or short circuit of iron and so on. If the above methods are invalid and the checked parts work normally, it can be determined that the ammeter itself has a fault.

The phenomenon of non-charge of diesel generator set and its fault judgment method have been introduced above. The following is illustrated by the example of Model 4105 diesel engine. For the analysis of the diesel engine with silicon rectifier generator, the ammeter has no charge indication when running, and its judging and checking method.

Firstly, check whether the polarity of the battery is correct and whether the drive belt of the silicon rectifier generator is too loose or slippery. If the wiring method is correct, contact with the back cover bearing cover of the silicon rectifier generator, try to see if there is suction. Under normal conditions, there should be a larger suction. Otherwise, silicon rectifier generator excitation circuit may have an open circuit.

To determine the open circuit position, remove the magnetic field connection of the generator and rub it with the case. There are three situations.

1. There is no spark

It shows that the connection between regulator and generator magnetic field connection is broken.

2. There could be little blue and white sparks.

It indicates the contact oxidation of the regulator

3. There is strong white sparks and it make a "snap" sound,

The results show that the magnetic field is well connected and the excitation circuit of the silicon rectifier generator is open mostly because of the poor grounding carbon brushes or the removal of carbon from the carbon brushes.

If it is confirmed that the excitation circuit of the silicon rectifier generator is well connected, the regulator cover is opened and the rotary device is used between the fixed contact bracket and the movable contact, so that the magnetic field current is not controlled by the regulator and the path is formed by the rotary device. Stabilize the diesel engine at medium and high speed and observe the ammeter. There are two situations:

1. There are two situations.

This indicates that the silicon rectifier generator is good and the regulator spring is too elastic.

2. There is still no charging current

It should be further retried at this time. The wire and housing on the armature pole of the silicon rectifier generator can be removed. If there is a spark indicating that the line connected to the armature is in good condition, and the fault occurs in the silicon rectifier generator, if there is no spark, Describes the connection break associated with the armature.
