Adjustment and Test Management of Diesel Generator Excitation System

The setting and adjustment of the power system stabilizer should be carried out by qualified scientific research units or recognized technical supervision units in accordance with relevant industry standards. Before the test, a test plan should be prepared and approved, including test items, safety measures, and hazard point analysis. The V/Hz limiting link characteristics of the excitation system should be matched with those of the diesel generator or transformer with low overexcitation ability. Regardless of the use of definite time or inverse time characteristics, they should be restricted before the corresponding relay protection device of the diesel generator acts. The V/Hz limiting link should work correctly under both no-load and load conditions of the diesel generator. If the excitation system is equipped with a stator overvoltage limiting link, it should be coordinated with the overvoltage protection setting of the diesel generator, and this limiting link should act before the diesel generator protection.


The setting of the action value of the low excitation limit link in the excitation system should mainly consider the heating situation of the stator core and structural components of the diesel generator, as well as the impact on the static stability of the system, and cooperate with the diesel generator excitation loss protection to act before the protection. When the diesel generator enters the working area of the low excitation limit link of the excitation regulator when it is disturbed during phase operation, it is not allowed to enter an unstable working state. The characteristics of the overexcitation limiting link in the excitation system should be consistent with the overload capacity of the diesel generator rotor, and should be coordinated with the rotor overload protection setting in the diesel generator protection to act before protection.


The characteristics of the stator current limiting link in the excitation system should be consistent with the overcurrent capacity of the diesel generator stator, but it is not allowed for the stator current limiting link to act before the rotor overexcitation limiting action, thereby affecting the strong excitation capacity of the diesel generator. The excitation system should have a reactive power adjustment link and a reasonable reactive power adjustment coefficient. The reactive power adjustment coefficients of diesel generators connected to the same bus should be basically consistent, and the reactive power adjustment function of the excitation system should be put into operation.
