Determine The Fault of The 320 kW Yuchai Generator Set

Jan. 22, 2024

The Dingbo series 320 kW Yuchai generator set is equipped with electronic fuel injection and high-pressure common rail device, which has the advantages of low fuel consumption, low emissions, and low noise. So how to use the "cylinder cut-off" method to determine its fault?

When there is a power outage in the city, the 320 kW Yuchai generator set serves as a continuous source of production power to supply electricity. However, sometimes the generator set may suddenly shut down due to certain fault reasons during use. This article introduces the method of using the "cylinder interruption" method to determine the fault of a 320 kW Yuchai generator set by a professional diesel generator manufacturer.

1. The diesel generator has a metal tapping sound and the smoke exhaust is basically normal.

This tapping sound has a certain rhythm and changes with the speed of the diesel engine. If the abnormal noise weakens after the cylinder is cut off, it can be determined that the fault is in this cylinder. If the metal tapping sound is clear and crisp, it can be determined that the abnormal noise is caused by the excessive clearance between the piston pin and the connecting rod copper sleeve; If the abnormal noise is heavy and strong, it indicates that the fault is on the connecting rod bearing, which is caused by the excessive clearance between the connecting rod bearing and the crankshaft journal, resulting in "bearing smashing"; If it is the knocking sound of "Zanyu", it is because the clearance between the piston and the cylinder liner of the cylinder is too large. If there is no significant change in the abnormal noise after the cylinder is cut off, it can be concluded that the fault is not in the cylinder.

2. Diesel generators emit intermittent black smoke accompanied by knocking sounds. This type of malfunction is usually caused by poor atomization or excessive fuel supply from the fuel injector of a certain cylinder, leading to so-called combustion knocking. If these abnormal noises disappear after the cylinder is cut off, it can be concluded that there is a malfunction in the fuel system of the cylinder.

3. The diesel generator runs unevenly and makes a "sudden" sound, which is most noticeable when idling. This type of malfunction is usually caused by a certain cylinder not working, commonly known as "cylinder shortage". There are many reasons for cylinder shortage in diesel engines, such as lack of fuel supply or low cylinder compression pressure. If there is no significant change in the speed of the diesel generator after a certain cylinder is cut off, it can be concluded that the fault is in that cylinder.

4. The diesel generator emits a crisp "popping" sound and white smoke is emitted. When the cylinder gasket of a diesel generator is damaged and leaks air, the diesel engine will make a crisp "popping" sound during operation; If the cylinder is connected to the water channel, it will also cause the coolant temperature to rapidly increase until it boils down, and the diesel engine exhaust will emit white smoke. If the "snap" sound or white smoke phenomenon from the exhaust disappears or weakens after a cylinder is cut off, it can be determined that the cylinder gasket of the cylinder is damaged.
