Diesel Generator B Terminal Voltage Test

If a diesel engine is equipped with a catalytic exhaust purification device, the operating time of the diesel engine during this test shall not exceed 5 minutes.

1. Measure the battery voltage with the diesel engine stopped and without using the vehicle's electrical equipment, and use this voltage as the reference voltage (reference voltage).

2. Start the diesel generator and maintain the speed of the diesel generator set at 2000r/min. Without using the electrical equipment on the vehicle, measure the voltage of the battery, which is called the no-load charging voltage of the generator. The no-load charging voltage should be slightly higher than the reference voltage, but generally not exceeding 2V.

3. Maintain the engine speed at 2000r/min, connect electrical accessories such as heater, air conditioning, or headlights (high beam), etc. When the voltage stabilizes, measure the battery voltage, which is called the load voltage. Load: The voltage should be at least 0.5V higher than the reference voltage.

4. If there is a problem, the voltage drop of the charging circuit can be checked when the charging current is 20A, as shown in the figure. Connect the positive terminal of the voltmeter to the armature (B+) terminal of the generator, and the negative terminal of the voltmeter to the positive terminal of the battery. The reading of the voltmeter should not exceed 0.7V; Connect the positive pole of the voltmeter to the regulator housing and the other end to the generator housing. The reading of the voltmeter should not exceed 0.05V; When one end of the voltmeter is connected to the generator casing and the other end is connected to the negative terminal of the battery, the reading of the voltmeter should not exceed 0.05V. If the displayed values do not match, the corresponding connecting wire heads and mounting brackets should be cleaned and tightened.
