Factors Affecting The Power of Diesel Generator Sets

Firstly, the power calibrated for diesel engines is specific to a particular environmental condition. Environmental conditions refer to the atmospheric pressure, temperature, and relative humidity at the operating location of a diesel engine, which have a significant impact on the performance and efficiency of the engine.

 

Backup power is the instantaneous maximum power of the backup power source. When used at standby power, the engine has no overload capacity. Cannot operate in parallel with the power grid. This calibration ensures the maximum power that the backup power supply can effectively use. The engine with backup power calibration is used at an average load rate of 80% for no more than 200 hours per year. The usage time at the backup power point shall not exceed 25 hours per year. The actual instantaneous power used must not exceed the calibrated standby power. When helping users with power matching, the possibility of excessive instantaneous power should be ruled out.

 

Common power refers to the power that can be used as a substitute for commercial grid electricity. The commonly used power must be used in one of the following two types. An engine calibrated according to the commonly used power for unlimited operation can effectively change the load for unlimited use. During every 250 hours of operation, the average value of the variable load cannot exceed 70% of the calibrated common power. Within one year, the total operating time of 100% common power shall not exceed 500 hours. Within a 12 hour operating cycle, there is an effective overload capacity of 10% for 1 hour. Within one year, the entire time of overloading by 10% shall not exceed 25 hours.

 

An engine calibrated according to the common power for limited time operation can operate indefinitely for constant load purposes. Such as situations where low power is used but output power is limited. Under the premise that the power will never exceed the commonly used power calibration, it can operate on the grid for 750 hours within one year. No matter what, make users understand that long-term high load operation will shorten the engine life. For any occasion where the grid connected operation exceeds 750 hours within a year, please choose an engine with continuous power calibration.

 

Continuous power is the power that can be used continuously without time limit according to the calibrated load. Calibrate the engine for no overload capacity based on continuous power.

 

Environmental temperature and altitude: When the ambient atmospheric pressure decreases, the temperature increases, and the relative humidity increases, the amount of dry air sucked into the diesel engine cylinder will decrease, and the power of the diesel engine will decrease. On the contrary, the power of the diesel engine will increase. The engine can operate under the following conditions without power adjustment: an engine with a speed of 1800r/min, an altitude below 1525m (5000ft), and an ambient temperature below 40 ℃ (104 ° F). An engine with a speed of 1500r/min, altitude below 1525m (5000ft), and ambient temperature below 40 ℃ (104 ° F).

 

When the generator operates beyond the above conditions and the altitude is higher than 1525m (5000ft), the power will decrease by 4% for every 300m (1000ft) increase; When the ambient temperature exceeds 40 ℃ (104 ° F), for every 1 ℃ increase, the power decreases by 2% (for every 10 ° F increase, the power decreases by 1%). To use diesel generator sets in high-altitude areas, it is necessary to purchase high-power diesel engines to match them, and the cooling system also needs to be professionally designed and modified. In areas with high sea waves, many supporting start-up measures need to be taken when starting diesel generator sets to ensure the normal start-up of the units.
