How to Adjust The Voltage of Generator Set?

Adjust the voltage of the generator

Dingbo Power professionals adjust the voltage of the generator every few days to meet the various combinations and specific electrical requirements of customers. Although most generators can adjust voltage, your specific choice is always limited by the generator end you are using.

The process of changing voltage itself is a relatively technical electrical program, mainly involving adjusting the wires at the generator end. On most three-phase generator sets, Dingbo Power typically uses 10 or 12 wires at the generator end and reconfigures the arrangement and connection of these wires, adjusting their routing to the control panel and other locations - depending on the goal we are trying to achieve. Dingbo Electric has effectively insulated the wires. If necessary, adjust the induction wires and make additional changes there. This is where various wiring schemes such as dog legs and double triangles (or zigzags), Y-shaped configurations, and others are often referenced. For example, on a three-phase generator set, Dingbo Power can convert 208V to 480V, or convert 480V to 240V, or use almost any other combination and phase of all available voltages (as long as the generator end can be reconnected).

The generator terminal is the main component that determines how the generator reacts when changing phase and/or voltage. When completed correctly, changing the voltage should not damage or strain any capacity unit. Many customers request two or more system voltages from their backup generator sets. This includes 480 volt electric motors, 208 volt electrical and production equipment, as well as 240 volt small loads and electric tools. You can use a three-phase generator to achieve this by using a conversion switch or obtaining a dual voltage generator already manufactured for this purpose. However, please remember that you cannot output multiple voltages simultaneously from a single generator. You need to manually switch the output to each different voltage, or use a transformer to achieve this.

When fully considering voltage changes, it is necessary to pay attention to some limitations. Specialized or high-voltage generator sets (such as 4160 or 13500 volts) are not suitable for modification. You can replace 600 volts with 480 volts, but not the opposite. In addition, on many three-phase generators, certain components are sometimes difficult to access and solve. For example, they may have wrapped flexible conduits, panel doors in strange positions, or shells that are not easily accessible to technicians. Although it is almost always possible to approach the cylinder and wiring at the end of a three-phase generator, it can sometimes be difficult. Another thing to remember is that some generator terminals cannot be reconnected, so the available wiring options and schemes on these types of generators are very limited.
