How To Repair The Damaged Cooler Core In The Engine Oil Cooler

The function of the oil cooler is to cool the lubricating oil and keep the oil temperature within the normal working range. On a high-power reinforced engine, an oil cooler must be installed due to the large thermal load. When the engine is running, the lubricating capacity is reduced due to the thinning of the oil viscosity with increasing temperature. Therefore, some engines are equipped with an oil cooler, whose function is to reduce the temperature of the oil and maintain a certain viscosity of the lubricating oil. The oil cooler is arranged in the circulating oil circuit of the lubrication system.

During the operation of the diesel engine, if it is found that coolant enters the oil pan and there is oil in the radiator at the same time, the repair method for the damage of the cooler core is as follows:

① After draining the waste oil inside the cooler, remove the oil cooler. Lay the removed cooler flat, and then fill the cooler with water through the oil outlet of the oil cooler.

During the experiment, the oil inlet was blocked, and a high-pressure air cylinder was used to withhold air into the cooler. If it is found that there is water coming out from the oil inlet and outlet of the oil cooler, it means that the inner core of the cooler or the sealing ring of the end cover is damaged.

②Remove the front and rear covers of the oil cooler, and take out the core. If the outer layer of the core is found to be damaged, it can be repaired by brazing. If the inner layer of the core is found to be damaged, a new core should generally be replaced or both ends of the same core should be blocked.

When the end cover is cracked or broken, it can be used after welding with a cast iron electrode. If the gasket is damaged or aged, it should be replaced.
