During the load operation of a diesel generator, it is necessary to monitor and control the working conditions of the unit at any time, accurately and promptly report various faults, and automatically protect the safe and reliable power supply of the unit.

(1) The electrical control and protection system of the generator generally consists of an integrated controller, sensors, instruments, etc.

The function of the sensor is to monitor signals such as temperature and pressure on the diesel engine and convert these signals into current signals.

(2)Currently, the DC control systems of Deep Sea (DEERPSEA) are widely used. Commonly used controllers include 501K, 520, 550, 560, 5110, 5220, 5510, etc. There is also the GU320A control system.

The 560 module is an automatic generator control module that can automatically start and stop the engine and indicate the operating status and fault conditions. When the generator is automatically stopped, the light - emitting diode (LED) on the control panel will flash, and the fault cause will be displayed through the LCD icon.

The operation is achieved through the three control positions of the rotary switch on the control panel: automatic, manual, and stop. The triangular button is used to view the operating parameters of the unit.

(4) Float Charger

Nowadays, most generators are used as backups and may not be started for one or two months. Since the battery has a self - discharge phenomenon, it may not be able to be used in an emergency due to lack of power. Therefore, a float charger needs to be installed. Usually, the battery is charged with the mains power, and the charging will stop when the battery voltage reaches the specified value.

Speed Regulation System of Generator Sets

(1) Working Principle of the Speed Regulation System

When the diesel engine flywheel rotates, the speed - measuring magnetic head installed on the flywheel housing generates a pulsed voltage signal, which is transmitted to the electronic speed - regulating board. If the speed is lower than the preset value of the electronic speed - regulating board, the voltage output from the electronic speed - regulating board to the electronic actuator increases, and the fuel supply of the oil pump increases accordingly, so that the speed of the diesel engine reaches the preset value.

(2) The speed regulation system includes: an electronic speed - regulating board, a speed - measuring magnetic head, and an electronic actuator.

The voltage of the electronic actuator is generally 6 - 8 VDC and increases with the increase of the load, reaching 12 - 13 VDC at full load.
