Installation Steps of Air Compressor for Yuchai Engine

Some generators are started using compressed air. Therefore, there is an air compressor behind the generator. When the generator is working, it drives the air compressor to store compressed air in a steel cylinder. During startup, the compressed air is introduced into the diesel engine, which then starts and drives the generator. The air compressor is a major component of the diesel generator set that provides power to relevant equipment by compressing air. The air compressors used in our company's products, according to the requirements of different models, can be either air - cooled or water - cooled. However, their installation methods are basically the same. They are all fastened to the gear chamber using three or four bolts through a pressure plate and the gear chamber cover.

 

Tips for Yuchai Generator Maintenance

Except for the intake and exhaust valve plates and valve seats, the structures and working principles of these two types of air compressors are the same. Therefore, the installation and maintenance of the two types of air compressors are basically the same.

 

1. Cleaning of the Diesel Engine Air Compressor

The main task is to clean the intake and exhaust valve plates and valve seats on the cylinder head, as well as the piston rings and the carbon deposits on them. These two areas are the key parts determining whether the air compressor can pump air and must be kept absolutely clean.

 

2. Inspection of the Diesel Engine Air Compressor

The main focus is to check whether the intake and exhaust valves of the air compressor close properly. Simple inspection methods are as follows:

When the air compressor is not working: Blow into the intake pipe port on the cylinder head with your mouth. The intake valve plate should open, allowing smooth intake. Conversely, when inhaling, it should not open (i.e., no air can be sucked out). The same method is used to check the exhaust valve. You cannot blow air in through the exhaust pipe port, but you can suck air out. If so, the valve plates of the air compressor are in good condition; otherwise, there is a problem. For the air compressor in Figure 2 - 8 - 1, use a wire to poke the valve plate from the intake port to compress the spring so that the valve plate travel is 1 - 1.5 mm. Otherwise, there are serious carbon deposits or foreign objects at the valve plate.

When the air compressor is working: Block the intake port with your hand. You should only feel suction and no thrust; otherwise, the intake valve plate does not close tightly. A normal air compressor can reach a pressure of over 0.7 MPa in about 5 minutes at medium - speed operation. If it fails to reach this pressure after 10 minutes, there is a problem with the air compressor.

The fit between the woodruff key on the air compressor shaft and the keyway: It should not be too loose. Otherwise, the keyway is likely to be damaged, resulting in an inaccurate fuel supply advance angle.

 

3. Installation of the Diesel Engine Air Compressor

The installation positions of air compressors vary among different models, and the connections between the air compressor gears and the intermediate idler gears also differ. In YC6105 and YC4110 engines, the air compressor gears are directly connected to the intermediate idler gears. In YC4112, YC6108ZLQ, YC6112, and YC6L engines, the intermediate gears of the air compressor and the camshaft gears are connected to the intermediate idler gears. In the YC6M engine, the air compressor gears are connected to the intermediate idler gears through the camshaft gears. Therefore, during the installation of the air compressor:

Gear meshing clearance: First, ensure that the meshing clearance of each gear is basically within the range of 0.07 - 0.25 mm. Check the meshing clearance before fully tightening the fastening bolts of the air compressor so that appropriate adjustments can be made before final tightening.

 

Alignment of gears for engines with a fuel injection pump at the rear of the air compressor: If the engine (such as the YC6105ZLQ engine) needs to install a fuel injection pump at the rear of the air compressor, ensure that the air compressor gears are correctly aligned with the intermediate idler gears. Note that for the YC4108 engine, the fastening bolt close to the engine body is a fine - thread bolt. This is an important point to note during Yuchai generator maintenance, so don't make a mistake.
