With the rising temperature in summer, Dingbo Power has recently received feedback from many users that diesel generator sets are automatically shut down due to excessive coolant temperature. We know that the coolant heats up during normal operation of a diesel generator set, the coolant is pumped through the radiator (by the "water pump"), and the engine fan blows ambient air through the radiator matrix to lower the coolant temperature. In order to prevent the unit from overheating and causing malfunction, Guangxi Dingbo Generator Set Manufacturing Co.,Ltd. recommends that you pay attention to check the temperature of the coolant.
Keep in mind that if you remove the radiator cap, it can be pressurized and very hot. If the coolant is too hot, steam may escape when the lid is opened.
If the coolant is too hot, the coolant switch may show a fault or the coolant transmitter may indicate a reading (resistance or voltage) that is too high. In both cases, the controller will take action to shut down.
Too much engine load and not enough coolant to cool down fast: This causes the coolant to get hotter and hotter until the coolant switch shuts down due to a malfunction. In this case, reduce the load on the generator.
The radiator matrix has accumulated dust/oil, and air cannot pass through, with the consequence that the coolant may be too hot. In this case, ask a professional to clean your radiator.
Corrosion inside the radiator, blockage in the pipes carrying the coolant, possibly due to the use of an incorrect coolant/water mixture, or the incorrect type of coolant, or failure to replace the coolant at the specified intervals. This also leads to the consequence that the coolant may be too hot. In this case, you will need to flush the radiator power supply, but may also need a new radiator.
The "water pump" can fail, preventing the coolant from flowing around the system. In this case, you will need a new water pump. NOTE: In this case the coolant in the radiator may still be cold as it cannot be pumped from the engine to the radiator.
Faulty thermostat: When the engine gets hot, the thermostat opens, allowing air to flow around the radiator. If the thermostat fails, you will need to install a new one. NOTE: In this case the coolant in the radiator may still be cold as it cannot flow from the engine to the radiator.
If you recently filled the unit with water, there may be an airlock in the system, which means the coolant in the system is too low and getting too hot. In this case, add more coolant after releasing the airlock.
If it is set to off on the transmitter, the device may be shutting down prematurely. As the transmitter sends the resistance or voltage value to the controller, the controller then converts it to temperature. Check that the engine's controller set points are correct.
In hot summer, the cooling work of diesel generator set is an important operation in the work of the generator set. Users should pay attention to the temperature of the coolant at any time. When the coolant is insufficient, it should be replenished in time. At the same time, regular maintenance of the generator set should be done to avoid other failures.
