The timing drive belt of a diesel engine is an important component of the engine's valve distribution system. It is connected to the crankshaft and matched with a certain transmission ratio to ensure accurate intake and exhaust times. The use of a belt instead of a gear for transmission is due to its low noise, small self variation, and easy compensation.
Many low-power diesel engines use a transmission belt drive method to drive the valve train, so the installation of the transmission belt in such diesel engines has certain difficulties and requirements. Taking the timing drive belt of the Great Wall GW4D20 diesel engine as an example, the following is a brief explanation:
(1) Key points for replacement. When replacing the timing drive belt, pay attention to the following points: 1. Check the condition of the drive belt; 2. Whether the timing mark is aligned; 3
Tightening torque of tensioning wheel; 4. Insert the timing drive belt; 5. Timing verification.
(2) Replacement steps.
Step 1: Remove the timing drive belt.
1. Check for scratches, wear, missing teeth, and oil stains on the drive belt.
2. Loosen the fixing bolt of the tensioning wheel, remove the tensioning wheel, and remove the timing drive belt.
Step 2: Align the timing.
1. Align the camshaft pulley markings with the mating surface of the cylinder head and camshaft bearing cover (exhaust side).
2. Align the high-pressure oil pump pulley markings with the horizontal ribs on the water pump housing.
3. Align the crankshaft pulley mark with the oil pump housing arrow.
Step 3: Install the timing drive belt.
1. Before installing the timing drive belt, check the surface of the timing drive belt for any lubricating grease, antifreeze, or other foreign objects, and then carefully inspect the teeth of the timing drive belt for cracks or defects. If there are any, replace the timing drive belt. Timing drive belt forced replacement mileage: 80000km.
2. Insert the qualified timing drive belt onto the timing pulley in the following order. The assembly sequence is crankshaft timing pulley → timing drive belt idler pulley → oil pump timing pulley → water pump timing pulley → high-pressure oil pump timing pulley → camshaft timing pulley → timing drive belt tensioner.
3. During the assembly process, it should be ensured that except for the tensioning wheel, the other parts of the drive belt pulley should be tightly combined with the pulley without looseness.
Step 4: Install the tensioning wheel and tighten the timing drive belt.
1. When installing the tensioning wheel of the timing drive belt, first clamp the limit bracket of the tensioning wheel into the bowl plug position of the cylinder cover, and tighten the tensioning wheel fastening bolt (be careful not to tighten it).
2. Use an Allen wrench to adjust the tensioning wheel pin hole until the tensioning wheel arm pointer exceeds the installation arm gap by 1 ° -2 °. Tighten the tightening wheel fastening bolts to the specified torque. Tightening torque: (24 ± 2) N · m.
Step 5: Verify the timing drive belt.
Rotate the crankshaft clockwise by two turns. Check and confirm whether the corresponding timing marks on the crankshaft timing pulley and camshaft timing pulley are aligned, and whether the transmission belt mesh is intact. Check if the pointer of the automatic tensioning wheel corresponds to the notch position and if the tightening torque of the automatic tensioning wheel meets the requirements. If there are any abnormalities, they should be readjusted.
