When selecting circuit breakers for diesel generators, several different standards need to be considered, including voltage, frequency, breaking capacity, continuous current rating, abnormal working conditions, and product testing. Today, Dingbo Power will provide you with a detailed introduction on how to choose the appropriate circuit breaker for your special application.
Rated voltage
Provide total rated voltage calculations for circuit breakers of different sizes and configurations based on the maximum voltage that can be applied to all terminal ports, distribution types, and how circuit breakers can be directly integrated with the system. It is crucial to choose a circuit breaker with sufficient voltage capacity to meet the final application requirements.
Frequency
The circuit breaker can use a frequency of 50-120Hz up to 600 amperes. A frequency exceeding 120Hz will cause the circuit breaker to have to reduce its frequency. For projects with higher frequencies, eddy currents and iron losses can generate more heat inside the thermal trip component, so it is necessary to reduce the capacity of the circuit breaker or perform specialized calibration. The total amount of decrease depends on the ampere rating, frame size, and current frequency. Based on experience, the higher the ampere rating in a specific rack size, the greater the required precipitation.
The circuit breaker composed of bimetallic plates heated by a transformer has a rating exceeding 600 amperes and is suitable for AC power up to 60Hz. Special calibration can be used for minimum AC applications at 50Hz. The solid state trip circuit breaker modulates frequency before 50 Hz or 60 Hz. If manufacturing diesel generator projects, the operating frequency is 50 Hz or 60 Hz. It is best to check with the electrical contractor in advance before carrying out the 50Hz project to ensure that there are calibration measures in place.
Maximum interrupt capacity
The rated breaking value is generally considered as the maximum fault current that the circuit breaker control panel circuit breaker can break without causing the system's own fault. The maximum fault current provided by the system can be calculated at any time. An absolutely reliable principle that must be followed when using the correct circuit breaker is that the breaking capacity of the circuit breaker must be equal to or greater than the amount of fault current that the circuit breaker can transmit. Not using the correct amount of breaking capacity will result in damage to the circuit breaker.
Continuous rated current
In terms of continuous rated current, molded case circuit breakers are measured in amperes at specific ambient temperatures. This ampere rating is the continuous current that the circuit breaker can withstand at a calibrated ambient temperature. The general experience for calibrating circuit breakers is that their standard circuit breakers are below 104 ° F. The ampere rating for all standard applications depends only on the load type and duty cycle. The National Electrical Standard (NEC) ampere rating is the main source of load cycle information for the power contracting industry. For example, lighting and feeding circuits typically require a circuit breaker based on the load flow of the conductor. To identify the current levels and allowable loads of various standard circuit breakers for different specifications of wires.
