Working Principle of Speed Governing System of Perkins Diesel Generator Set

The speed governing system of Perkins diesel generator set consists of three parts: electronic speed governing plate, speed measuring magnetic head and electronic actuator. Dingbo Power will share the working principle of Perkins diesel generator set speed governing system:

When the flywheel of the diesel engine rotates, the speed measuring head installed on the flywheel housing generates a pulse voltage signal. The voltage value exceeds 1.5VAC, and this voltage value is transmitted to the electronic speed governing plate (EFC3044196). If the speed is lower than the preset value of the electronic speed governing plate, the pressure output from the electronic speed governing plate to the electronic actuator increases, and the fuel supply of the PT oil pump increases accordingly, so that the speed of the diesel engine reaches the preset value of the electronic speed governing plate.

1. Speed measuring head

The coil of the speed measuring magnetic head can use the ohm gear of the multimeter to detect the two terminal blocks of the coil. The resistance value is generally within the range of 100-300 ohms. The terminal block is insulated from the housing of the speed measuring magnetic head. When the Perkins diesel generator set is in normal operation, the AC voltage gear is used for detection, and the voltage output should exceed 1.5V.

When installing the speed measuring magnetic head, turn any tooth of the flywheel and the disc unit to the center of the mounting hole of the speed measuring magnetic head, and then gently screw the speed measuring magnetic head in. After the speed measuring magnetic head contacts the tooth, turn it back 1/3-3/4 circle counterclockwise, and finally fasten the speed measuring magnetic head with a nut.

2. Electronic actuator

The coil of the electronic actuator can use the ohm gear of the multimeter to detect the two terminal blocks of the coil. The resistance value is generally between 7-8 ohms. When the power generation is to be operated with no load, the voltage value from the electronic speed governing board to the electronic actuator is generally between 6-8 VDC, which will increase with the increase of the load. When the power generation is full, it is generally between 12-13 VDC.

When the Perkins diesel generator set is unloaded, if the voltage value is lower than 5VDC, it indicates that the electronic actuator is excessively worn and needs to be replaced;

When Perkins diesel generator set is loaded, if the voltage value is higher than 15VDC, it indicates that the PT oil pump has insufficient oil supply.

3. Electronic speed governing board

Perkins diesel generator set can use EFC3044196 electronic speed governing plate, which can also be replaced by BARBER-COLMAN (part number: 10794-000-024) or GSD5221, GSD5220, GSD5520 series electronic speed governing plates of GAC.

During normal operation, the "DROOP" on the electronic speed governing board is adjusted to the "0" position. "SPEED" is the speed regulating knob of Perkins diesel generator set, and "IDLE" is the idle speed adjusting knob of Perkins diesel generator set. When it is rotated clockwise, the speed increases.

When the two knobs "SPEED" and "IDLE" are out of order, the two knobs can be rotated clockwise for 20 turns, and then counterclockwise for 10 turns, which is the middle position of the knobs. At this time, turn the "SPEED" or "IDLE" knob clockwise or counterclockwise according to the running speed of the diesel engine (land generator set driven type).
