Distinguishing The Authenticity of "Three Filters" in Diesel Generators

Sep. 20, 2024

The "three filters" are important components of diesel generators and play a crucial role in their normal operation. They refer to the oil filter, air filter, and diesel filter, which are used to filter impurities from engine oil, air, and diesel, respectively.

The oil filter needs to be replaced every 200 hours of operation of the diesel generator set; Replace the air filter according to the indicator display; The diesel filter needs to be replaced every 400 hours of operation of the diesel generator set, and the replacement cycle generally depends on the quality of the diesel. If the diesel quality is poor or the working environment of the unit is dusty, the replacement cycle needs to be shortened; Timely cleaning and maintenance of the "three filters" can fully utilize the performance of diesel generators, reduce the failure rate of generators, and help extend the service life of generators.

At present, there is a mixed bag of filter maintenance parts in the market, including subpar aftermarket parts and low-quality counterfeit products. How can users distinguish between genuine and fake machine filters? Actually, it's not difficult to distinguish between genuine and fake machine filters. Top Power has a few tricks for you:

First move: Check whether the texture of the rubber ring of the machine filter is tough and soft

The rubber ring of the branded machine filter still feels flexible even when squeezed hard, and there will be no cracks at the bend, with high stretchability. However, the rubber ring of cheap machine filters has a hard texture and lacks elasticity. It cannot feel flexible when pinched by hand, and the harder it is pinched, the harder it feels and the lower its stretchability.

The rubber ring at the inlet and outlet of the filter is also one of the references for judging the quality of the filter. Users can remove the rubber ring, pinch it by hand, and feel the texture of the rubber ring. A good machine filter will have a thick rubber ring material and a soft feeling when pinched by hand to ensure the sealing around the inlet and outlet of the oil.

Second trick: Check if it has a check valve structure inside

Whether the filter has a check valve is also an important basis for judging its quality level. The check valve can prevent oil from flowing back to the oil pan, ensuring that oil pressure can be directly formed during cold start of the diesel generator, and preventing dry wear of the engine. The position of the check valve is inside the inlet of the filter. We can use a pointed object to insert it into the inlet to test: if there is a soft feeling when inserted into the rubber, it indicates that the filter has a check valve. If a hard object is inserted, it indicates that the filter does not have a check valve.

Step 3: Insert your fingers into the inner wall of the filter to check if the filter element is stable

A good machine filter has its filter element firmly fixed inside the filter, which will not shift when subjected to oil pressure and vehicle bumps, ensuring that the oil passes through the filter paper to complete the filtration. How to determine whether the filter element of the machine filter is stable or not? It's actually quite simple. Users just need to insert their fingers into the machine filter, press the inner wall firmly, and see if the filter element will shake. A good machine filter will have its filter element firmly fixed and won't shift even when pressed with their fingers, while a cheap and inferior filter element will continue to shake.

Fourth move: Shake the filter vigorously and listen for any noise

Users can hold the filter to their ear, shake it vigorously, and listen for any obvious interference noise from the components inside the filter. Generally, good filters do not have noise, while poor quality filters may have noise. This is because good filters have better fixation of their filter elements.

The above methods for identifying genuine and fake engine filters compiled by Top Power hope to be helpful to you. When users need to replace the engine filter during maintenance of diesel generators, they must purchase filter accessories from reputable manufacturers to ensure that the diesel generator set has good operating conditions.
