Today we will introduce to you the common problems about the fuel tank of emergency diesel generator set.
Tank type: The most common form of storage tank for standby diesel generator sets is the base type, and the diesel generator set is directly installed on the top of the fuel tank. If necessary, the tank will exceed the length of the unit to accommodate the desired operation and then refill.
Running time: The running time of the fuel tank is calculated by the fuel quantity at 100% load. If the generator is overloaded during a power outage, the worst-case scenario occurs. 100% fuel consumption multiplied by 24 = 24 hour tank. When choosing a tank size, keep in mind that the generator is usually not running at 100% load, so it may take more than 24 hours.
Tank Size: As mentioned earlier, the size of the tank depends on the run time. If the application requires a large fuel tank for the required run time, an option may be to secure the platform around (or to the side) of the equipment for easy maintenance and operation.
Operating hours depend on the company: in the medical industry, for example, in critical life safety applications, the fuel source for backup generators must be at least 48 hours. Other aspects of the normative provisions may add or subtract provisions.
Daily use or extended use: Using a fuel tank may be a viable option when the physical size constraints of the fuel tank simply aren't enough. Daily fuel tanks serve as direct fuel sources, accepting fuel from larger depots. This could be a separate tank mounted near the generator, or a base tank for everyday use. In either case, daily storage tanks are designed to be replenished automatically with oil pumps and controls.
Diesel fuel types: Standard diesel fuel is divided into two grades. The type of fuel for the backup generator determines the local climatic conditions. The two fuels are often blended together to benefit both fuels and adapt to local climatic conditions. Fuel suppliers are usually familiar with the grades (or mixtures) of the local climate.
Fuel Processing and Polishing: Diesel fuel typically begins to deteriorate and become solid within six months. In preventive maintenance, fuel treatment can be used to extend service life, ensuring that fuel is compliant and ready to use. It can inhibit the growth of microorganisms, prevent gelation, and stabilize fuel. In addition, to solve the fuel problem, the oil tank can be polished to remove moisture and sediment from the water and filter the pollutants. It is an economical choice for an environmentally friendly alternative fuel, as all fuels can be recycled without loss of product.
Fuel quality inspection: When the generator is out of power, the fuel quality problem often occurs in overloaded operation, and the reliability of the backup system is the most important. Before a fuel problem occurs, a quality and contamination test should be performed to check for contamination, as well as the overall quality of the fuel. Sampling of contaminants including water quality, sediment, colloids, flash point and cloud point.
