Check whether the starter of the diesel generator is normal, usually by powering it on to observe whether it can operate and whether the speed is high after powering on, and whether the sound is uniform and powerful. When checking, it can be placed separately on the ground for stability. If the speed of the starter is high and the sound is uniform and strong after being powered on, it indicates good performance.
Diagnosis of abnormal noise from the starter motor. To eliminate abnormal noise from the starter motor, the first step is to understand the time when the fault occurred, as the time at which starter motor noise is generated varies due to different factors. The main switch of the starter is turned on too early, and the driving gear does not mesh well with the diesel engine flywheel ring gear. The driving gear of the starter collides with the flywheel at the diesel engine flywheel, producing a sharp tooth strike sound. It is not advisable to start the diesel engine at this time. It is necessary to adjust the travel of the active iron core of the electromagnetic switch and delay the engagement time of the switch's dynamic and static contacts. After the starter drive gear meshes with the flywheel ring gear to drive the crankshaft of the diesel generator, a sudden meshing impact sound is generated, which is generally caused by poor meshing or damage to the one-way clutch of the starter.
Inspect the flywheel ring gear and the drive teeth of the starter motor. Wear of the rollers and wedge-shaped grooves in the one-way clutch and slipping of the one-way clutch can also cause this fault. After starting the diesel generator, when the ignition switch is turned back to the ON position, the starter produces noise, which is generally caused by the starter drive gear not separating from the flywheel ring gear in time. At this point, the high-speed rotating flywheel drives the drive gear to run in the same direction. Due to the one-way action of the one-way clutch, although the starter will not be subjected to too much reverse impact load, it produces noise, indicating a problem with the circuit or mechanical aspects.
Remove the wire from the starter electromagnetic switch terminal. If the sound disappears, it indicates that the fault is caused by the inability to power off the circuit from the ignition switch to the starter switch terminal. After removing the wire, the fault still exists, and the gear cannot automatically return, which is mostly caused by the friction clutch gear getting stuck in the flywheel.
At this time, it is necessary to check and eliminate the wear of the flywheel ring gear, whether the drive gear moves freely on the armature shaft, whether the shift fork is installed upside down, whether the movable iron core of the electromagnetic switch is stuck, whether the return spring is too soft, whether the movable and fixed contact plates are stuck due to burning, and whether the one-way clutch is slipping.
