Introduction of Crankshaft in Diesel Generator Set

Sep. 07, 2022

The crankshaft is a very important part of the diesel engine power transmission assembly in the diesel generator set. Today, Starlight Power Generation Equipment will introduce the relevant knowledge of the crankshaft in the diesel generator set.

1. The function of the crankshaft of the diesel generator set

The crankshaft of diesel generator set is mainly composed of main bearing, crank, belt pulley, front axle, output flange, etc. Its function is to convert the reciprocating linear motion of the piston assembly into rotary motion through the connecting rod assembly, and output power through the output end, At the same time drive the valve train and other auxiliary devices.

2. Working conditions and materials of crankshaft of diesel generator set

During the working process of the diesel engine, the crankshaft is subjected to the combined action of a large alternating torque, bending force, pressure, centrifugal force and tensile force. At the same time, each journal of the crankshaft needs to rotate at a high speed under a high specific pressure, so that the journal and the bearing are subject to high-intensity wear. This requires that the materials used to manufacture the crankshaft must have sufficient strength and stiffness, as well as high fatigue resistance, strong wear resistance and good balance on the journal surface.

At present, crankshafts are generally forged from alloy steel or high-quality carbon steel. With the continuous progress of manufacturing technology, in recent years, more crankshafts are cast with ductile iron. This is mainly because the crankshaft cast with ductile iron has lower price, simpler manufacturing process, superior performance and better wear resistance than forged steel crankshaft compared with forged steel.

3. Structural form of crankshaft of diesel generator set

The structure of diesel generator set crankshaft can be generally divided into two categories: combined type and integral type.

Combined crankshaft

The combined crankshaft is to process the various parts that make up the crankshaft separately, and then connect the various parts together by screws. The characteristic of the combined crankshaft is that the crankshaft is short (the main journal and the crank arm are integrated), so the length of the diesel engine is reduced, the processing is more convenient, and it is also conducive to the serialization of products; higher.

Integral crankshaft

The integral crankshaft is made by casting or forging each part of the crankshaft on a crankshaft blank. It is characterized by light weight, high strength and rigidity, simple structure and low manufacturing cost; the disadvantage is that it is difficult to process. , the maintenance cost is high. This form of crankshaft is generally only used in small and medium diesel or gasoline engines.

Starlight Power has advanced testing equipment, modern production technology, professional manufacturing technology, perfect quality management system, and strong technical research and development capabilities. It can provide 3KW~2500KW various specifications of ordinary, automatic, four protection, automatic switching, low noise and mobile generator sets, high quality and low energy consumption to meet the diverse power needs of customers, and can also meet users with different voltages and different frequencies. It is required to create a parallel power supply system for multiple units. If you are interested in our product or any question on generator, welcome to send email to sales@dieselgeneratortech.com.
