Is The Diesel Generator Load As Small As Possible?

Sep. 10, 2021

Do you think the lower loading better for the diesel generator? In fact, this is a misunderstanding that many people easily make. Because long-term low idle speed or no-load for more than 10 minutes will damage the diesel engine. Today, we will give you a brief explanation. First, part of the oil that goes up to the cylinder participates in the combustion, and part of the oil cannot be completely burned. Carbon deposits are formed at the valve, intake passage, piston crown, piston ring, etc., and some are discharged along with it.气出。 Gas expelled. In this way, the engine oil will gradually accumulate in the exhaust duct of the cylinder liner of the diesel generator, and the carbon deposit of the diesel generator will also be formed.

If the piston-cylinder liner seal is not good, the oil will run up and burn in the combustion chamber, and the exhaust will emit blue smoke. When the oil in the booster chamber of the diesel generator supercharger accumulates to a certain extent, it will leak from the joint surface of the supercharger. For supercharged diesel engines, the boost pressure is low due to low load and no load. It is easy to cause the sealing effect of the turbocharger oil seal (non-contact type) to decrease, and the oil rushes into the booster chamber and enters the cylinder along with the intake air. Long-term low-load operation of diesel generators will cause more serious wear and tear of moving parts, deterioration of the combustion environment of diesel generators, and other consequences that lead to the advancement of the overhaul period.

Therefore, foreign diesel generator manufacturers emphasize that the use of naturally aspirated or supercharged models should minimize the low-load/no-load operation time, and stipulate that the minimum load cannot be less than 25% of the rated power of the diesel generator- 30%. Long-term low-load operation of diesel generators will cause the temperature of the combustion chamber to be too low, so that the fuel cannot be completely burned, which will cause the formation of carbon deposits around the injector holes and piston rings of the diesel generator and cause valve sticking. If the diesel generator coolant temperature is lower than 60°C, the unburned fuel will wash away the lubricating oil on the cylinder wall and dilute the lubricating oil in the crankcase, which will affect the quality of the lubricating oil and shorten the life of the engine. The idle time should be shortened as much as possible to prevent this from happening.
