Main Grinding Methods for Diesel Generator Valves

Aug. 23, 2023

What are the main grinding methods for diesel generator valves? There are two grinding methods for diesel generator valves: motorized grinding and manual grinding. The dynamic grinding method is mainly applicable to internal combustion engine production plants and fire maintenance machinery plants. There are two reasons for this. Firstly, the price of valve grinding machines is relatively high. Secondly, production plants and large maintenance machinery factories grind a large number of valves. Grinding valves with grinding machines can improve production efficiency, while manual grinding is mainly suitable for small maintenance and usage units of generators. So for the general user and maintainer, it is mainly to master the manual grinding method.

Firstly, clean the valve, valve seat, and valve guide. Secondly, apply a thin layer of coarse grinding sand to the valve inclined surface, and at the same time, apply lubricating oil to the valve stem. Insert the valve stem into the guide. If both the valve and valve seat are polished, fine sand can be directly used. Next, use a rubber bowl to suck on the valve head, causing the valve to rotate back and forth for grinding, as shown in the left figure; If there is no rubber bowl and there is a groove on the top of the valve, a soft spring can be placed on the valve stem and ground with a screwdriver. When grinding the valve, it should be noted that the valve should be rotated in one direction within the valve seat during grinding. The valve should be lifted and rotated from time to time to change the relative position between the valve and the seat to ensure even grinding; When grinding, excessive force should not be exerted, and the valve should not be lifted and forcefully knocked on the valve seat, otherwise the working surface of the valve will be widened or ground into concave grooves.

Alternatively, when a neat and spotless contact ring is formed between the valve working surface and the valve seat working surface, the coarse grinding sand should be washed away and then replaced with fine grinding sand. During the grinding process, attention should be paid to checking the contact condition of the valve: if the contact surface is too close, the sand point should be on top of the contact surface, and the contact surface should be pushed towards the middle; If the contact surface is too low and the sand point is below, push the contact surface towards the middle; If the contact surface is in the middle and basically meets the requirements, sand can be applied at two points above and below the contact surface to quickly grind out the contact surface; If the width of the contact surface is too narrow, the sand point should be in the middle to increase the contact surface. Finally, when a closed halo is formed on the working surface of the valve head, wash off the fine grinding sand, apply lubricating oil, and continue grinding for a few minutes. The width of the valve working surface should be in accordance with the original factory regulations. If there are no original factory regulations, the general intake valve is 1.00~2.00mm; The exhaust valve is 1.50-2.50mm.
