Today, we will continue to introduce troubleshooting techniques for RV generators that cannot be started.

3. Lack of fuel in the RV fuel tank

If your RV's fuel tank is less than a quarter of the tank, there will not be enough fuel to provide fuel for the generator.

Therefore, if the RV fuel tank is too low, the generator will not operate. Your Rv generator either uses diesel, natural gas, or propane.

The vast majority of built-in RV generators will use the RV's diesel or natural gas fuel tank instead of their own fuel tank.

To prevent the generator from running out of all the fuel in your RV, if the fuel becomes too low, the generator will shut down.

Otherwise, you will be trapped because you have decided to keep the generator running all night.

If your generator relies on propane for operation, this will not be a problem. However, if your generator stops working, you should check the fuel level of propane.

Repair

Firstly, check the fuel gauge. If your fuel tank is very low, it may be the culprit. This is a simple method because you can go to the gas station to refuel.

If you add more oil to the fuel tank and the generator still doesn't work, then you need to consider other possible reasons.

4. The old fuel is still not enough

Some RV generators are independent devices and do not have fuel system pipelines connected to the RV fuel tank.

Therefore, in some cases, the fuel of the generator itself may be insufficient. Another common situation is that fuel is kept in the generator between travel seasons, just old.

You can only store fuel for such a long time, so if it's too old, your generator won't run.

Repair

The only thing you can do is add or replace the fuel in the tank.

However, please be sure to check the user manual before performing this operation! Adding the wrong type of fuel can damage the generator.

If you suspect that the fuel for the generator is old rather than low, then the fuel filter may also need to be replaced.

If you don't have a solid foundation in mechanical knowledge, it's best to hand over the generator to a mechanic to replace the old fuel.

Before adding new fuel, they will be able to properly clean the fuel tank and replace the fuel filter.

5. Parts should be replaced

Therefore, fuel, battery, and oil issues are not the only areas where RV generators will have problems.

These are just the most common culprits, first check if your generator has stopped running.

There are so many other parts in the generator that anything can really go wrong.

Repair

This will require you to conduct some fault diagnosis yourself, or you should have a mechanic diagnose the problem at hand.

You may be able to check some connection points or critical moving parts for corrosion or any looseness/breakage.

If there is no physical injury, it is difficult for you to determine where the problem is on your own.

6. It's just old

All mechanical products have an expiration date. You can extend the service life of the machine by performing appropriate maintenance and upkeep, but ultimately they need to be replaced.

If your generator has been used for a long time, you may just have worn it out. If you buy a second-hand generator, this should also be a consideration factor.

You may not know how much it has been used or how well it has been maintained.

repair

Buy a new one! Make your best effort to repair the old one and consider taking it to the technician to determine if you can repair it. If possible, we suggest repairing it, but sometimes the RV generator is worn out. If your situation is like this, then it's time to start shopping.
