Valve Distribution Mechanism of Diesel Generator Camshaft

Dec. 28, 2023

The diesel generator camshaft upper, middle, and lower valve distribution mechanism is as follows:

genset maintenance

Camshaft mounted valve mechanism

The camshaft of the camshaft mounted valve distribution mechanism is arranged on the cylinder head of the diesel generator. The camshaft drives the valve directly through the rocker arm, without a follower or push rod, which greatly reduces the mass of reciprocating motion and requires the lowest requirements for the camshaft and valve spring. Its structural characteristics are: 1. The camshaft is arranged on the cylinder head. 2. The camshaft drives the valve directly through the rocker arm, without a follower or push rod, which greatly reduces the mass of reciprocating motion. Therefore, it is suitable for high-speed engines.

Mid mounted camshaft valve mechanism

The camshaft of the central camshaft valve distribution mechanism is located at the upper part of the cylinder block. In order to reduce the mass of the reciprocating motion of the valve transmission mechanism, for high-speed diesel engines, the position of the camshaft can be moved to the upper part of the cylinder block, and the camshaft can directly drive the rocker arm through the tappet without the push rod.

Due to the long distance between the centerline of the crankshaft and camshaft, an intermediate gear (idler gear) is generally added between the crankshaft timing gear and the camshaft timing gear in this type of structural arrangement of the valve distribution mechanism.

Its structural characteristics are: 1. The camshaft is located at the upper part of the cylinder block. 2. The push rod is shorter and has less inertia in motion. 3. Alternatively, the push rod can be omitted and the rocker arm can be directly driven by the push rod, reducing the reciprocating motion mass of the valve transmission mechanism.

Lower camshaft valve mechanism

The camshaft of the camshaft mounted valve distribution mechanism is installed in the crankcase, and the camshaft timing gear meshes with the crankshaft timing gear, which is driven by the crankshaft. This type of layout is the most widely used.

1. Composition. It mainly consists of two parts: valve drive group and valve group.

1) Valve drive group. The valve drive group is all the parts that start from the timing gear and push the valve action, mainly composed of the timing gear, camshaft, valve lifter, push rod, adjustment screw and lock nut, rocker arm, rocker arm shaft, rocker arm shaft bracket, etc. Its function is to regularly drive the valve to open and close.

2) Valve assembly. The valve group mainly consists of valve lock pieces, valve spring seats, valve springs, valves, valve guides, valve seats, etc. Its main function is to maintain the closure of the valve.

2. Structural characteristics. The intake and exhaust valves of the diesel engine are installed on the cylinder head.

1) The camshaft is installed inside the crankcase, while the rocker arm shaft is installed on the cylinder head, and the two are far apart with a longer push rod.

2) The camshaft is closer to the crankshaft, and a timing gear transmission is used between the two.
