What is the engine ECU or ECM on the generator?

ECU is a computer that obtains various inputs from sensors on diesel engines and uses this information to control unit injectors or engine brakes. This in turn controls the speed of the engine by changing the amount of fuel injected into the engine cylinders.

Disadvantages of electronic control unit/engine control module

1) Extra cost, ECU is more expensive than mechanical speed controllers.

2) Software is often needed to adjust parameters, which may be limited to dealers.

3) Additional wiring is required on standard mechanical speed controllers.
