Working Principle and Function of Diesel Generating Cooling System

The cooling system of diesel generator set is used to keep the engine in an appropriate temperature range under different working conditions. After the cold start of the diesel generating set, the cooling system shall also realize the relatively fast temperature rise of the engine and reach the normal operating temperature as soon as possible. The cooling system is an important system to maintain the normal temperature of the engine and realize the normal operation of the engine.

The water cooling system of the diesel generator set is a forced circulation water cooling system, that is, the water pump is used to increase the pressure of the coolant, and the forced coolant circulates in the engine. This system includes water pump, radiator, cooling fan, thermostat, water jacket in engine block and cylinder head and other additional devices.

The forced circulation water cooling system uses a water pump to pressurize the cooling liquid of the system and make it flow in the water jacket. The cooling water absorbs heat from the cylinder wall, and the temperature rises. The hot water flows upward into the cylinder head, and then flows out of the cylinder head and into the radiator. Due to the stronger blowing effect of the fan, the air flows through the radiator at a high speed from front to back, constantly taking away the heat of the water flowing through the radiator. The cooled water is re-pumped into the water jacket from the bottom of the radiator by the water pump. Water circulates continuously in the cooling system.

The function of diesel generators fan is to blow out air when the fan rotates to make it pass through the radiator, so as to enhance the heat dissipation capacity of the radiator and speed up the cooling speed of the coolant.

The radiator core is the core part of the radiator and plays a major role in heat dissipation. The radiator core is composed of radiator tube, radiator fin (or diffuser), upper and lower main fins, etc. Because it has sufficient heat dissipation area, it can ensure that the required heat is dissipated from the engine to the surrounding atmosphere. Moreover, the radiator core of 100 kW generator for construction site is made of thin metal and its alloy with good thermal conductivity, which can make the radiator core achieve high heat dissipation effect with small quality and size. There are many types of radiator core structures, such as tube sheet type, tube belt type, tube core type, etc.

When the temperature of the small circulation coolant is low, the diesel engine (land diesel generator set driven type) needs a warm-up process. At this time, the thermostat is closed. The coolant circulation route: water pump-body, cylinder head water jacket - cylinder head water jacket outlet pipe - thermostat - water pump. The coolant temperature rises rapidly without passing through the radiator.

When the coolant temperature of the diesel generator set is high (above 80 ℃), the thermostat will open, and the coolant circulation route: water pump-body, cylinder head water jacket - cylinder head water jacket outlet pipe - thermostat - radiator - water pump. As it passes through the radiator, the coolant will dissipate the heat absorbed from the engine parts into the atmosphere, and control the temperature of the diesel engine (driven by land diesel generator set) after comparison.
