Classification of Diesel Generator Sets

Diesel generator sets are mainly divided into four parts: diesel engine, generator, control system, and accessories. The diesel engine is the power output part of the entire unit, accounting for 70% of the cost of the diesel generator set. The function of the generator is to convert the power of the diesel engine into electricity, which is directly related to the quality and stability of the output power.

There are many types of diesel generator sets, which can usually be classified according to the following methods:

(1) According to the fuel classification of the engine; it can be divided into diesel generator sets and composite fuel generator sets.

(2) According to the speed classification; it can be divided into high-speed, medium-speed and low-speed diesel generator sets.

(3) Classification according to the conditions of use: it can be divided into land use, marine use, trailer type and car type diesel generator sets. Among them, land-based generator sets: including mobile and stationary. Land use units can be divided into four types: ordinary type, automatic type, low-noise type, and low-noise automatic type.

(4) According to the generator output voltage and frequency classification: it can be divided into AC generator sets and DC generator sets. (5) According to the different excitation methods of AC synchronous generators, diesel generator sets can be divided into units equipped with rotating AC exciter excitation systems and units equipped with static exciter excitation systems.

(6) According to the different uses of diesel generator sets, diesel generator sets can be divided into common generator sets, standby generator sets, and emergency generator sets.
