How to choose the right diesel generator?

Buying a diesel generator is not an easy task, you need to consider a number of factors. Selecting an optimal diesel generator requires balancing technical specifications, operational costs, and compliance needs. As a manufacturer with 18+ years in global power solutions, Dingbo Power recommends this framework:

Power capacity calculation

Step 1: Add 20% buffer to your total connected load

For example, for 100kW critical load, a minimum 120kW generator is required.

Step 2: Consider starting surges (3-7x rated current for motors)

Application types and frequency of use

Prime Power (PRP) generator sets can operate an unlimited number of hours with the possibility of a 10% overload for 1 hour every 12 hours. The average load for a period of 24 hours cannot exceed the 70% of the PRP rated power of the set. Standby Power (STP) generator sets are suitable for operating variable loads up to 200 hours per year within an average of 70% of the STP rated power every 24 hours. This type of sets is often found in emergency industrial and commercial applications.

Types of generators

Generators are manufactured in a range of sizes and formats for particular types of applications. Each generator type has its own benefits and drawbacks, You should choose the type of generator that is right for your business. Different applications require different types of generators. For example, if you need a backup generator for your temporary sites, mobile diesel generators are a good option.

In addition to the factors mentioned above, factors like noise level, fuel efficiency, reliability and emissions are also vital aspects should be considered. If you are looking for a generator set, feel free to contact us today.
