The lightning arrester used to protect the high-voltage rotating electric machine generally adopts the magnetic blown arrester, and the arrester should be assembled close to the generator. Under normal circumstances, the arrester can be installed at the outlet of the motor. If there are no more than two generator sets connected to each group of bus bars, or the capacity of a single unit does not exceed 500kw, and the distance from the arrester is no more than 50m, the arrester can also be installed on each group of bus bars.

When the neutral point of the direct-matching motor can be drawn and is not directly grounded, a magnetic blower or ordinary valve-type arrester should be installed on the neutral point. The rated voltage of the arrester should not be lower than the maximum operating phase voltage of the generator set. For the generator set with a line voltage of 6.3kV, FCD-4 or FZ-4 4kV arresters should be used. 10.5kV generator set should use FCD-6 or Fz-6 6kV lightning arrester.
