Influence of Environmental Conditions on Generator Performance

The rated power of the generator is for a specific environmental condition. Environmental conditions refer to the ambient atmospheric pressure, temperature, and relative humidity at the location where the generator is operating, and they have a great impact on the performance of the generator.

When the ambient atmospheric pressure decreases, the temperature increases and the relative humidity increases, the dry air drawn into the cylinder of the generator will decrease, and the power of the generator will decrease. Conversely, the power of the generator will increase. Since environmental conditions greatly affect generator performance, standard environmental conditions are specified when power is calibrated.

In the national standard GB/T60722008 "Reciprocating Generator Performance Part 1 Calibration and Test Methods for Power, Fuel Consumption and Oil Consumption Additional Requirements for General Engines", the standard environmental conditions for generator operation are specified: atmospheric pressure po = 100kPa, relative to Humidity po = 30%, ambient temperature To = 298K or 5°C, and the cooling medium inlet temperature of the intercooler To = 298K or 25°C. If the generator operates under non-standard conditions, its effective power and fuel consumption rate should be corrected to standard ambient conditions.
