If the battery fails, the diesel generator will not start, so the battery maintenance is very important. The battery is mainly used to start the diesel engine, and the second function is to monitor whether the power grid and the oil, water and other conditions before starting meet the starting requirements.

Battery voltage: The nominal voltage of each cell of the diesel generator battery is usually 2V, and the actual voltage depends on the charging and discharging conditions. As the discharge process progresses, the voltage will slowly drop. When the voltage drops to 1.7V, the discharge should not be continued, otherwise the voltage will drop sharply, affecting the service life of the diesel generator battery.

Battery capacity: In actual use, the capacity of the diesel generator battery is not a fixed value. There are many factors that affect the discharge capacity. In addition to the structure of the battery, the number and area of the plates, and the material of the separator, it is also related to factors such as discharge, the size of the charging current, the concentration and temperature of the electrolyte.

The capacity of the diesel generator battery indicates its ability to output electricity, and the unit is A·h. The rated capacity of the battery refers to the power output when the electrolyte temperature is 30 ℃ ± 2 ℃, within the allowable discharge range, with a certain value of current continuous discharge for 10 hours, the voltage of a single cell drops to 1.7V. The capacity is expressed by Q table (unit is A·h), I is the discharge current value, T is the discharge time, then Q=IT, if the rated capacity of the battery is 126A·h, when the average temperature of the electrolyte is 30 ℃ , can be powered by a current of 12.6A, and can discharge continuously for 10h.

If the discharge current is too large, the chemical reaction is only carried out on the surface of the plate and cannot penetrate into the interior, the voltage will drop rapidly, and the capacity will be reduced. When the temperature is lowered, the viscosity and resistance of the electrolyte will increase, and the capacity of the battery will decrease. This is an important reason for the insufficient battery capacity of diesel generators in winter. Therefore, in winter and colder regions, the battery must be insulated, otherwise it is difficult to start the diesel generator.

The batteries stored for a long time in diesel generators must be properly charged before use to ensure the normal capacity of the batteries. (The actual capacity of the battery can be detected by a hydrometer) Normal operation and charging will cause some water in the battery to evaporate, which requires frequent refilling of the battery. Before refilling, the dirt around the filling port should be cleaned to prevent it. Fall into the battery compartment, then open the filling port, add an appropriate amount of distilled water or pure water, do not overfill (take the battery plate scale as the standard), otherwise, when the battery is discharged/charged, the internal electrolyte will be It pours out from the overflow hole of the filling port, causing corrosion and damage to the surrounding objects and the environment.

Avoid starting the diesel generator at low temperature. The battery capacity will not be able to output normally in low temperature environment, and long-term discharge may cause battery failure (cracking or explosion).
